As a hotel owner and operator in Nigeria I am privileged to
travel to different places both within our borders and beyond. Being in the
hospitality industry I am also attentive to the minute details of every hotel
I’ve stayed. To this end, its has bothered me greatly at the lack of domestic
input in terms of local hotel management in the hotels I’ve stayed at within
the country. As I write this we are the
only internationally branded hotel in Nigeria that is managed my a Nigeria
Management Company. The recent triumph of our Super Eagles should serve as a
beacon of hope that we as Nigerians are capable of delivering when we are given
adequate support and resources. The majority of hotels in this country are Nigerian owned, but how many of them are
Nigerian managed? By managed I don’t
necessarily mean that the hotel has to have a Nigerian general manager, but
rather a Nigerian management company behind the scenes.
